Virgil
Earp wore this U.S. Marshal badge during his time in Tombstone, Arizona. Virgil
was commissioned by Crawley P. Dake, U. S. Marshal for Arizona. After Virgil was
ambushed and crippled in 1882, it was Dake who appointed Wyatt Earp, Virgil's
brother, as a (temporary) Deputy U. S. Marshal to pursue his brother Morgan's
killer.
