How's
Business?
Folks
ask us this every day.
We
truly appreciate your concern and wonderful comments .. please
be assured you that we are not going anywhere!
Our family has been in the western business since 1941, when
Greg's great grandfather, William, opened BASKIN'S in Long Beach,
California. His son, Norman, and soon his grandson, Marv, supplied
western wear to sailors back when Long Beach was a major Naval
base. (Polly The Parrot was perched out front, where he learned
every salty expression of the time from the passing sailors.)
We will continue bringing you fresh,wonderful new merchandise
and are here to welcome you! With your friendship and patronage,
we will weather this storm and come out stronger than before.
When
Greg graduated high school just a few decades ago:
*
Unemployment was 10.8% -- today it's 8.5%
* Inflation was 10.3% -- 2009 forecast is negative 1%
- 2%
* Mortgage rates were 18.9% -- today 4.78%, a record low
* Gas was $1.38 a gallon -- today $1.79 here in Arizona
Our
suggestion: Slow down your news consumption! It profits from hype
and strife. Yes, things are certainly not what they were, but
when we hear how "terrible" everything is we feed into
that fear and it becomes self-fulfilling. So spend what you can
to make the economy more vital .. every bit helps!
